Alrighty, let’s talk about bronzers, ladies.
Summer’s here, and there is no easier way to convey a good glow than a quick sweep of bronzer across your face. That said, the minute you saw the word “bronzer” at the top of this post, your head automatically said, “Nope.”
“Nope nope.”
“All the nopes. Also, nope.”
Because, when the word “bronzer” is uttered, most of us have fear of using it the wrong way. Because we’ve all seen when bronze goes bad. Like, this…
But’s let’s discuss, because I feel like it’s time for bronzer to be used appropriately and without fear. Gather ’round…
First of all, there is a difference between “bronze” and “tan.” If you’re using enough bronzer to alter your skin tone, you’re living life all wrong. There are plenty of awesome products that can help tan your face, but bronzer shouldn’t be one of them.
Bronzer is mean to even your complexion and cancels redness while adding a touch of sun-kissed glow. If you want to use one shade lighter to contour, it can add definition to your cheekbones, and under your jawline it can lift the features of your lower face. But it is not — I repeat, NOT —a mode of tanning.
The second misconception is that people with lighter skin can’t use it. There are a lot of shades of bronzer, there are plenty of formulas. This wardrobe of bronzers from Too Faced is, in my opinion, some of the best out there. It comes in a wide range, including Milk Chocolate, which is for light-to-medium skin tones.
But the best thing about bronzers, in general, is when you find formulas like the ones you see above, particularly my favorite (featured in the photo above,): the Endless Summer 16-Hour Wear Bronzer. A subtle touch of shimmer (subtle, but visible,) it delivers a I-took-a-quick-trip-to-the-Islands look without being overly dark or glittery. It’s beautiful, and it stays put for an entire day. I used it while I was at Governors Ball a couple of weeks ago, and it honestly didn’t move all day. I’m impressed that it stayed on through twelve hours of sun exposure, sweating, dancing, and festival antics. That said, it can handle your day-to-night daily needs and then some.
