The Look: Silk Shorts and Summer Sweaters

When it comes to getting dressed for summer evenings, I am most definitely a cut-offs and t-shirt kind of gal. But every once in a while, you have to look cute when it’s over a temperature that most would call comfortable. For my money, this is when a lightweight sweater and silk shorts save my hide every…single…time.

We shot these photos because this is my personal go-to look during the summer, and the pieces are mix-and-match wardrobe staples everyone should have. A good pair of printed silk shorts can also go with a light cotton t-shirt and a jacket, a cami, and a cardigan, a sweatshirt, or a sequined top and dazzling earrings. The lightweight sweater is a wardrobe workhorse during the summer: jeans, shorts, pencil and A-line skirts, professional pants (depending on how “earthy” your sweater is), and many more. In short, this look works for everyone. Case closed.

Looking at these photos also makes me think how important date nights are during the summer. If I’ve learned anything with Lucky Guy, it’s that scheduling regular date nights is damned important. We’re both so busy that it gets really easy to fall asleep with each other on the couch watching Archer (which we do…a lot.) We talk throughout the day, but we don’t really “connect,” which is why that time where it’s just the two of you with no distractions, phone, internet or social media is vital. You listen to each other. You laugh, you eat, you can develop a crush on each other again.

In addition to looking cute for the festivities planned for the Independence Day holiday, I’ll be whipping this out for our monthly “anniversary” brunch date thingy on Sunday (we do something every month to celebrate the day we met.) This month we’re heading to the Jeff Koons exhibit at The Whitney, followed by brunch and some gallery snooping. Seems perfect to me.
